The Wine Bar
The Spisermarkt shopping center is located in the heart of St. Gallen‘s old town. In the shopping arcade between Spisergasse and Löwengasse, the project has been created on a total area of 196m2. Two store areas in the Spisermarkt St. Gallen were newly combined. On the one hand a store area (wine trade) and on the other hand a Wine Bar including a small kitchen where warm and cold dishes are created, which are connected during the day and can be separated after closing time.
Rustic and modern elements packed together in an earthy color backdrop create a Mediterranean flair. The wine theme was to be the main focus. On the one hand, the new artificial stone arches were to suggest the association of a wine cellar vault, and on the other hand, these architectural elements could be used to zone the elongated floor plan. In addition, it was also possible to incorporate the history of the St. Gallen city walls, which are visible everywhere in the upper Old Town. Overall, a new form of wine cellar/tavern was to be created. The wine bar and the wine store are inconspicuously separated from each other by the different floor areas. In the wine store we worked with a natural stone tile full of character. While in the bar, the existing floor underwent a refresh and was left as raw as possible. On the other hand, the separation was achieved by an airlock in the form of an artificial stone wall with an integrated wine rack.
In the walk-in wine cellar, part of the existing walls were deliberately shown and refreshed. Here, too, the space was visually enlarged through the use of mirrors and creates a positive tension for the viewer. Together with the new elements, the wine cellar forms a coherent unit. Furthermore, various loose furniture and lighting fixtures were created. For example, the three large highlight lights above the bar or the tables with porcelain stoneware fillings are unique and were specially designed for the MAGNUM.
